| Kim Carney / Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Photographer, (wanna-be assemblage artist and quilter) Edmonds, WA Website Blog Photography My studio is somewhere I go and get completely lost in time, a place to dream and play. And although I do not get to spend as much time I would like to there, I am so thankful when I do and that I have such a space. It wasn’t long ago that I dreamed of having such a retreat, a place to hide from the world. Thank you for visiting! ![]() Over the years, I have also taken over another room for a sewing space and we have added several Macs in the family room so whoever is working on projects doesn't feel so isolated. A place for me to blog in the sun, where my son checks his myspace and learns Photoshop, where my mom can check her email and listen to BBC radio programs, where we all try and learn flash. Computers are such an intricate part of all our lives it is good to have a universal space for all us to work, together. I am longing for a G5! ![]() I am a graphic designer, illustrator and work for a online news organization. My husband is a newspaper illustrator, graphic designer. He was really the collector of fun objects, wind-up toys, rubber stamps, baseballs, books and he has infected me. ![]() So as much as a studio space, it is also where some of our fun collections live. Go there for inspiration, pick a book from our library of reference, atlas, art books. One can never have enough books! ![]() I have always been interested in quilting, assemblage art, print and painting canvas, painting furniture, really just painting anything would take acrylic. I have also become fascinated with photography and try to shoot something at least once a day. In short, I love to do it all, jack-of-all-trades, master of none. But that doesn’t stop me in trying out new processes, new ways to marry different media together. When I seriously took up assemblages the last year, my husband built me a new workspace in the garage and organized with all my favorite tools.
![]() A small wall space is changed out throughout the year for my personal inspiration. Art that friends have sent me, bird feathers, dried leaves, Christmas tags, photos. I love that I can change it out with my mood. More wall of inspiration set on flickr. |

Gorg space!! I'm so jealous, I hate being in upheaval, I'll be checking your snaps again after we've moved! Faboo! a : )
Thanks Mrs B, I had to do some deep cleaning to make these photos possible, and not embarrass myself ;)
Man that is one swell room!
Love your workspace, it is all so fantastic. I really like all the various storage spaces and how they all work together, you have a very good sense of design.
who are you kidding? you are jack-of-all-trades, master of all. it must be obvious to everyone!
wow! great studio kim!! i think any artist including myself would be jealous to have such a space. I love those big wooden flat files that you have as well as your computer set up by the wrap around windows. And the floors are really cool as well. They remind me of floors in an old ice cream parlor. And i might just have to copy that T.V. idea mounted up on the wall in the corner!
What a fantastic studio - LOVE yuor drawer units!!!!
Thank you Colin, I just wish I was half as productive in my studio as you are in yours ;) The TV was such a great addition, when I was glued down working until the wee hours of the night before there was the only computer in the house, it kept me company ;) The floor is easy to take care and was easy to install.
Thank you Julie! That is one of my fave pieces of furniture!
Hi Kim, I really love your workingspace. It´s so inviting and full of inspirational air! Would love to drop in :-)
Love the photos and how you write about your workspace! Now I'm totally inspired to finally organise my own "scrap room" this fall - after seeing your photos I am convinced it actually can be done, even at my place :) Thanks for the inspiration!
Kim I loved, loved loved seeing these photos and reading your narrative about your artspace/workspace/creativespace. Especially now that I have seen it in person. I can attest to the fact that your space is definitely stimulating!!! I didn't know about this website, but now that I have found it through you ... i'm gonna spend a little time poking around other artists' creative spaces. thanks for sharing your life with me.

I know of something you would love to add to your space sometime. Called melted wax painting done with a craft iron and it is great with rubber stamps. I am envolved with Gallery North in Edmonds if you ever want to explore this art form I can show you my very messy studio in the basement of Gallery North where you can give it a try. Your comments and pictures are inspiring. You've given me some great perspective on the workspace I have to assemble. There is renewed hope that it may soon be workable. I really like the write-ins, too. Community of artists is the best. cj.
i love it!!!
nice space. bring more inspiration...
Kim Carney,
Well, nice job here, of course I've seen this great space first hand, and you do a great job in your whole house decorating, and displaying collections. I love it.
You really should have included a shot of your dining room, with a table full of Mother's comida.
We'd all be drooling!
So tell me, I'm looking for containers for chemicals, (that will replace my brown paper bags that chemicals come in from the pottery supply place). I need all sizes, and a nice seal would be preferable in this climate, not round, but rectangular to fit together well, and stack to make my space nice to be in, even on gloomy NW days.
Any recommendations from the lady that knows where everything is everywhere?
